Zacapa Premio Platino XO Zacapa Premio Platino XO is a top rum in the super-premium class from Guatemala's largest rum producer: the Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala were created a few decades ago by the merger of four different distilleries in Guatemala City and have since been producing exclusive rums under the Zacapa and Botran brands. Named after the city of Zacapa in the east of the Central American country, Zacapa rums are among the best rums on the market for connoisseurs and connoisseurs all over the world. They are famous for their well-balanced and complex aroma and body, which gains special quality through long barrel storage. Like all Guatemalan rums, the Zacapa Premio Platino XO is made from the sugar cane juice of the first pressing, the so-called virgin sugar cane honey, and distilled in a Column Still plant with two distillation columns totalling 23 metres in height. The distillates from different distillation processes are then stored in different oak barrels, which previously contained Bourbon Whiskey, Sherry and other top wines. After 25 years of ageing, the marriage takes place to produce the unusually high-class Zacapa Premio Platino XO, which is offered in limited edition in a noble glass decanter and with an alcohol content of 40%. The Zacapa Premio Platino XO already shows a deep amber colour in the decanter, which is broken up in the glass by fresh chestnut-coloured reflections. The bouquet shows distinct spicy elements framed by the taste of fresh sugar cane and aromas of black berries. On the palate, Zacapa Premio Platino XO presents itself with a very complex body, characterized by clear caramel, spicy elements and a subtle woody note, as well as a reminder of tobacco. The long finish is introduced by chocolaty notes and a hint of toffee, again accompanied by a fine spiciness. The Zacapa Premio Platino XO was awarded a platinum medal at the International Rum Festival of Canada 2003 and received a gold medal in the "Superpremium" category at the Rum Festival in Barbados.
