On 28 April 1945 they were both executed by order of the ruling Partizans in Milan (the Comitato di liberazione nazionale dell’Alta Italia). Mussolini’s followers and traveling companions Bombacci, Pavolini, Starace and Buffarini were also executed. The bodies were taken to Milan where they were put on display. On the Piazzale Loreto the bodies of Mussolini and Petacci, together with the three with the same fate, were hung by their feet at the entrance of a gas station, where they were attacked by the crowds.
