Beautiful Jardinière in barbotine signed DE BRUYN of the Faïencerie FIVES LILLE FROM THE 19th century. It is signed with the well-known ANCHOR in which the D and the B are woven into the anchor. In good condition. Height 14 cm x width 24.5 cm. Weight 908 grams.
Antoine Gustave De Bruyn was born in Leuven on 9 December 1838 and died on 11 August 1916 in Lille, France. He was the founder of the aforementioned faïencerie.
Descending from a Belgian potter family, he initially established himself as a pipe maker and ceramist in Wazemmes (1862), a suburb of Lille (northern France) ... in the district 'Klein Belgium', rue Juliers No.20.
At the world exhibition of 1889 in Paris, the company received a silver medal, the refined graceful touch and use in Faïence was apparently very well received.
