The ox (ushi) is the second animal in the Japanese zodiac.
The lying ox refers to the peaceful countryside. The animal's stoic attitude also evokes associations with Zen Buddhist meditation.

The cored core of stag horn can be seen in the back of the ox. The plug is missing.

Beautiful patina by much wearing.
All details very well rendered.
