Excellent etching on laid paper published in 1729 by J. Covens and C. Mortier and engraved by Johannes or Jan Luyken, in perfect condition, with margins.
Traces of foxing which don’t affect the image.
Hollywood-worthy scene, with thousands of extras for the famous biblical scene
The artist creates this impressive scene with a masterful use of spatial dimensions.
By dwelling on the scene one can almost hear the chattering of the labour and the noise of stones moving.
Jan Luyken, or Johannes Luiken (Amsterdam, 1649 – 1712), was a Dutch poet, painter and engraver.
At the age of 26, Jan Luyken had a religious vision that led him to lead a more upright life.
As a result, his poetic work became much more edifying. Since 1677, Luyken devoted himself to etchings and engravings.
